On December 12th 2022, we updated the way single sign-on users (those who use their institutional username and password) are authenticated on the Skills for Study website. Please find some frequently asked questions about this update below.
Will users lose access to their progress or assessment scores?
No, users will still be able to access all their previously saved data including progress, assessment scores, bookmarks and journal entries once they have confirmed their accounts.
Who does this affect?
Users who have previously registered an account when accessing Skills for Study through Shibboleth (single sign-on).
How do users confirm their accounts?
Users are signposted through the account confirmation process.
The first time they log in, they will be asked if they have an existing account or if they are a brand new user.
Users who have previously logged into Skills for Study should select the "existing account" option, and they will then be asked to enter the institutional email address they used to register on the site.
They will then be sent a confirmation email containing a link which they should click on to complete this one-time process.
Will WAYFless URLs be affected?
Yes, the old format of WAYFless url, which begins with https://shibboleth2sp.pm.semcs.net/Shibboleth.sso/Login... no longer works.
The new format begins with https://authenticationhubbloomsbury.com/wayfless?id=....
If you require a new format WAYFless URL and have not already been provided with one, please contact us.
Will IP-based access change?
No, there is no change to how IP-based users access the site.
Will proxy-based access change?
No, users accessing via a proxy service such as EZProxy or Open Athens proxy are not affected.
Will LTI-based access change?
No, LTI-based access continue to work as before. You do not need to change any LTI links you have set up in your VLE.
What is your SP Entity ID?
Our service provider Entity ID has changed from https://shibboleth2sp.pm.semcs.net/shibboleth to https://authenticationhubbloomsbury.com/saml.
